night at the museum

Sometimes it's nice to indulge your inner child for a little bit. We did just that today in Florence when we found the Natural history museum, with an incredible collection of minerals, fossils, mammoth skeletons from the region (!!!) and taxidermy. It was like walking into heaven for six year olds. And the gift shop had make your own volcano kits (didn't everyone love doing those???). The dream.

for 2+ years during college, I worked at the Carnegie Natural History Museum in Pittsburgh in the dinosaur exhibits. nothing was scarier than walking past the T Rex skeletons after closing and nothing was more beautiful than standing in the middle of the hall of minerals, geodes and precious metals from all over the world illuminated with a background of black velvet.
